Clinic with Johanna Gwinn  (Bio)  (Resume)

Come see for yourself how an advanced rider with several advanced horses presents to a USDF Senior Judge. Share your insights and ideas for choreographing Musical Freestyles for the Friday Night Demo Rides. This is lots of fun, and a great learning opportunity for riders.

Charish has a good cross-section of horses ranging from green to advanced, so chances are good that you will see some familiar work to what you are doing with your own horse. Schoolmasters are available for students to ride during the clinic, and there are always two private sessions available with Johanna.

Short-term Intensive Sessions for Young Riders and Adults

These are scheduled periodically, as school schedules allow. The next one is scheduled for Young Riders, April 5-9 (except Sunday). This is an all day course, for consecutive days. Students will learn about stable management, grooming, developing their eye as a rider (both by watching and by riding), developing a feel for the horse. There are many opportunities for riding built into the day, depending on the number of participants (limit 6). Now accepting reservations for this session.

Buyer Brokering

Charish's reputation is built on good horse/rider matches. Let me know what you’re looking for, how much you’d like to spend, and how soon you want it, and I will do my best to find it, often finding it and finishing out training for LESS than you thought you would have to spend to find what you want.

Lay-ups and Rehabs for Sporthorses

Charish will work with your vet and trainer to develop a therapeutic work-out and nutritional maintenance program to help your horse perform to his fullest potential. Injuries, illness and mystery lameness's treated with the utmost TLC.

Training – General Purpose for horses

Many horses have the potential to excel in competition, but they lack “manners” or are generally sour. We have the perfect environment and program to get your horse on the right track, and the ability to share with you these techniques which have proven to work so well. Each training package is tailored to the individual horse, the needs and goals of the rider, as well as your budget. Charish specializes in Classical Dressage, so you can expect that your horse’s movement will be enhanced if he has not done dressage before. Dressage is beneficial to ALL horses, in ANY discipline.

Lessons – Dressage/ Hunt Seat/ Recreational Riding

As every horse can benefit from practicing dressage – so can every rider! I have heard it said about hunt seat – you ride every stride, in dressage, you ride every footfall. Hone your awareness and use of your independent aids. Learn on a schoolmaster first, then carry it over to your horse! It works!!

Hunt Seat lessons are offered in the warmer months. Charish has shown through the A’s and also coached locally. We love to go to the local shows for fun, at this point, we do not offer A show coaching, there simply isn’t time. Hunt Seat shows at the local level are EXCELLENT for building confidence in riders, and the ones we go to are just A LOT of fun! Learning jumping can be very scary if it’s not done with the utmost care, on safe mounts. Our two school horses who will jump quietly and well are Wonder and Dexter, I only offer low jumping lessons on HAW horses, as our school horses are older and will likely not withstand lots of high jumps at this point in their careers.

Recreational Riding –

This includes both dressage and hunt seat disciplines, as I really don’t have any horses who ride western at this time. The focus is on safety first, and how to function well OUTSIDE of the ring. Many riders aren’t given the opportunity to learn to ride outside of the ring with confidence and ability. Very sad indeed – some of my BEST memories from my childhood were all about just having fun with my friends and our horses.

Working Student Program –

Meets on most Saturdays, weather permitting. Students earn points for A’s on homework, and barn chores – earn while you learn! Students are paid in lessons and riding opportunities. This is the BEST way to learn everything from the ground up – you don’t get this level of instruction and practice with weekly lessons. All ages welcome.

Friday Night Demo Rides –

Musical Freestyles!! With no time for showing anytime in the foreseeable future, Charish is reviving a 2003 program with flair! All are welcome, I will post the times and dates as we near the warmer months.
